Dear friends of the Arabian Regional Committee, distinguished representatives, and peace-loving advocates,
It is an honour to address this online forum and join you in denouncing military drills and the escalating arms race that threaten peace and stability in Asia-Pacific region. As champions of regional peace and security, we are resolute in our stance.
The Korean War, a conflict that claimed three million lives and inflicted countless casualties, serves as a stark reminder of the devastation wrought by war. It is time to break this cycle of violence and embrace peace. Military exercises and displays of force only exacerbate tensions and deepen divides. They endanger our communities and threaten our freedoms, not protect them.
We must confront the enduring pain and loss caused by war. It tears apart families, shatters communities, and leaves a legacy of destruction. Our true enemy is war itself.
The Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies (CPCS), established in 2008, is committed to peace building and conflict transformation in Asia. We build upon the legacy of local peace initiatives like ACT and Action Asia, promoting peace within Cambodia and across the region.
Our programs focus on cultivating leadership, education, analysis, facilitation.
We draw upon our experiences and regional networks to support innovative peacebuilding strategies and interventions. As peace negotiators, practitioners, and mediators, we collaborate with organizations like the Korean National Peace Committee to advocate for peace on the Korean Peninsula and throughout the Asia-Pacific.
The Korean Peninsula and the Asia-Pacific region are brimming with beauty, diversity, and potential. Let us unite in upholding shared security, preserving common values, and safeguarding peace.
Despite prolonged and severe economic sanctions and hostile policies against the DPRK, it is clear that this approach has failed to achieve lasting peace. History teaches us that hostility and punitive measures only deepen animosity and hinder progress.
We must forge a new path based on empathy, dialogue, and mutual respect. True peace is nurtured through understanding and compromise. Let us break free from the cycle of aggression and embrace compassion, collaboration, and forgiveness.
Together, let us create a world where laughter replaces gunfire, friendship replace swords, and peace and prosperity define our legacy. May diplomacy triumph over force, and dialogue pave the way for enduring peace.
Thank you.
